Blazing a Path: Cannabis Assembly List Grows

The Legalise Cannabis Party has today released the names of a further 10 Legislative Assembly candidates, challenging Labor and Liberal incumbents across a range of state electorates.

In Baldivis, medicinal cannabis patient Mark Charles will bring his first-hand knowledge of workplace discrimination to bear as he challenges embattled MLA and Environment Minister Reece Whitby.

In Bunbury, local sailmaker John Bell will take a swing at Labor’s Minister for Regional Development and Fishers, Don Punch, in defence of our local, and oft-neglected hemp industry.

In Cottesloe, local resident and web designer Jessica Yu will offer a viable alternative for those who are tired of the Liberal Party’s in-fighting, and the lack of focus on the issues important to ordinary residents.

In Mount Lawley, founding LCWA member Leo Treasure, a blockchain tech expert and Tezos baker, will go up against Simon Millman in what has traditionally been a Liberal seat.

In the city centre electorate of Perth, young mother, graphic designer, and party state executive member Shannon Yeh will take the fight to Lands and Planning Minister John Carey.

Medically retired mining employee Phil Lesley will contest the seat of Rockingham, look to build upon the 6.8% share of the vote that LCWA achieved at the 2023 by-election.

In the new neighbouring seat of Secret Harbour father-of-two and Royal Australian Navy veteran Jim Matters will go up against Police and Veteran’s Issues Minister Paul Papalia.

In Thornlie, LCWA President and construction industry employee Fred Mulholland will be looking to make the most of Labor’s recent candidate confusion, and to focus on the real cost of living relief that the legalisation of cannabis could bring to first-time home buyers like himself.

Down in Vasse, long-term disability worker and advocate Shelly Leech will take on current Liberal leader Libby Mettam.

And in Wanneroo, Kunal Parbat, who works as the business manager for a local glass factory, will put cannabis law reform front and centre as he squares up against Family and Domestic Violence Minister Sabine Winton.

Photographs and further biographical details for each of these candidates will be released on the party’s website - https://www.lcwaparty.org.au/team - in the coming days, and a third tranche of Assembly candidates is expected to be made public before the end of January.
