Legalise Cannabis Candidates Assemble

The Legalise Cannabis WA Party has today announced the first of what are expected to be three batches of candidates for Assembly seats for the upcoming state election.

The ten candidates bring together a wealth of experience from all walks of life, alongside a firm commitment to the reform of cannabis laws across Western Australia.

In Balcatta, the party has endorsed practicing barrister and RAAF veteran Christopher Cole to go up against Labor’s David Michael, the Road Safety Minister, and the man responsible for the current driving laws which so adversely impact medicinal cannabis patients.

In Butler, the seat long-held by Attorney General John Quigley, LCWA has endorsed Ramon Grandos, a civil engineer, and CEO of a specialist hemp engineering firm.

In Forrestfield, local businessman and graphic designer Steve Emmons will take the fight to both Labor’s Stephen Price and the Liberals’ George Tilbury, the ex-president of the WA Police Union.

In the port city of Fremantle, David Foley, a young boiler maker and medicinal cannabis advocate will take on sitting minister Simone McGurk.

Up in Joondalup, long-time campaigner and cancer survivor Sam Law will be doing her utmost to bring her personal experience of cannabis as a healing herb to bear.

In Kalamunda, Penelope Young, a local nurse with a masters degree and 30 years of service under her belt, alongside a nationally accredited mediation qualification, will provide local voters with a viable and fresh alternative to Labor’s Matthew Hughes.

In Midland, aviation mechanic and mother, Jane Southworth will fly the flag for sensible drug reform.

In Mindarie, university researcher Lee Hunt will bring to bear his first-hand knowledge of the Canadian cannabis system, as he challenges ex-policeman Mark Folkard.

In the heart of hemp country, and the seat of Warren-Blackwood, farmer and permaculture advocate Aaron Peet will contest one of the most winnable seats in the state, which Labor currently holding with only a 2% margin.

And in West Swan, Elliot Taylor, a mining sector manager and ADF veteran, will take on the Treasurer, Rita Saffioti.
